HostGIS Linux is an operating system designed to simplify the entry into the world of open-source web-based GIS. Open-source GIS is a great thing, but installation is often a long and painful process. Although there are precompiled kits out there (e.g. FGS) they often lacked certain features such as an already-operating database, and still required time to install the base OS and then the kit. That's why there's HostGIS Linux. Your server's default installation includes everything you need to cut through the system administration and get straight to setting up map applications:
